Excellent write up Jasson! I had the same experience riding those QSB waves while running FD on Mt Herman w/IC703 & FT817 on SSB/CW during our 'Goats On The Air' GOTA FD ...way too fun - say R&P. 15m was our work horse band. Got several unsolicited "BIG-loud signal OB" reports back from guys on SSB ...blew me away!

Of course I was running my favorite Buddipole-VtV on a 8' mast on the edge of 1800' drop off! Until the Rooster goat crash. 10/6m was fun too! Amazing how the 'dead' bands come ALIVE during FD isn't it. Must be self induced propagation from all the RF flying around?

I didn't even hit 49-QSOs Jasson ...maybe 39? Just way too busy taking pics/video, fighting tarps-wind/weather, cooking, changing bands, rebuilding my fiberglass mast after Rooster pulled it over while getting tangled in the coax (managed to quickly disconnect the BNC from 817 as the coax was pulling it over the cliff!!) camping and having FUN ate up more time than I imagined. BUT I'm never a person who rates his activities by quantity but rather by quality it's the only big score in my book!

Glad to see BP has some good help! Keep cranking on those A123s they're going to be a big hit with us portable nuts!

Hi Vaughn, thanks for stopping by! Unfortunately, I couldn't tell you how the A123 compares to Li Ion or LiPo, because I've never used them in ham radio use. From the little bit of research that I've done on the R/C sites, those guys seem to think that A123 nanophosphate is superior.
The tripod does not have holes in the legs to stake it down. What we do is guy the mast, which works quite well. We sell a nice guying kit that works very well, although there's no reason you couldn't use a homebrew guying system if you desired.

Fantastic writeup. Thanks!
I am curious as to how you feel the lithium nanophospate stacks up to the straight up lithium ion and LiPo packs. Also, I am about to pull the trigger on the Buddipole and was wondering about one thing. Are their holes in the legs to stake down the tripod at all?

Thanks Again es 72,
Vaughn
